INFO FOR PUBLICATION

Interest growing for the 2013 Classic Boat Revival being held at Bosham Sailing Club on 6th & 7th July.

Now in its 3rd year, this unique event for classic racing dinghies is expected to attract entries from all over the UK and continue to play a key role in revitalising dinghy racing for some of the older boats in the established, much loved classes.

Providing a fun, competitive environment for classic racing dinghies that may not be in the first flush of youth, organisers are confident this year’s event can top last year’s record entry of 80 boats.

Organisers are particularly keen to encourage the classic racing classes – classes such as International 14, Merlin Rocket, National 12, National 18, Chi Harbour 18, GP14, Graduate, 505, Albacore, Scorpion, Enterprise, Hornet, Moth, Finn, OK, Solo, Cherub, Fireball, Firefly, FD, Osprey, Snipe, Jollyboat, Sharpie, Yachting World Dayboat – classes that were the mainstay of dinghy racing in the UK in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

This year organisers will also be issuing special invitations to a number of ‘feature/showcase’ boats, they would particularly like to see out on the water, whether racing or just providing a spectacle for all to enjoy – iconic classes such as the Flying Dutchman and the Thames A Rater.

Organiser Andrew Young commented, “With the National 18 championships being held at Hayling Island a couple of weeks later, we are hoping to get a good turnout of 18’s from around the UK and Ireland, to checkout the conditions.”

To streamline and preserve the unique long term appeal of the event and fine-tune the complex race management, organisers have made some significant refinements to this year’s event and may be forced to restrict the number of entries. Key change for 2013 is the upper PY limit of 1200, so check NOR (due to be published very soon) and enter early to ensure your place in this unique event.

Five races are scheduled, with committee boat starts in Chichester Harbour, over the two day event.

There will also be a hotly contested Concours d’Elegance award where a wonderful range of classic wooden racing dinghies will be judged.

To ensure the atmosphere is maintained ashore the parties revolve around live music each evening and to keep costs down club we are hoping our club members will be offering some free accommodation for visiting crews again this year.

Notice of Race for the 2013 Classic Boat Revival is due to be published very soon and will be available to download from the club website, in the meantime we are asking all those interested in attending CBR 2013 to register their interest at http://boshamsailingclub.com/classic-boat-revival/ to be sure to receive early notification when the NOR is posted on the website and entry is open.
